MBA... finalmente!

Luego de dos años de estudio duro y esfuerzo, llegó al final la etapa de la Maestría. Es increíble como pasa el tiempo, todo lo que se vive y aprende, más allá de las aulas, los casos, los trabajos y los examenes.

Al fin y al cabo, te das cuenta que lo más importante que te llevas son los amigos y los momentos que compartes con ellos. Con gente que te enseñó no solo de la vida, sino ampllió hasta tu vocabulario y tu acento, ya que terminas hablando de todo un poco, desde boliviano hasta salvadoreño... y con quienes compartías no sólo las largas jornadas de estudio, sino el día a día, bromas, fiestas, momentos tristes y otros en los que ya no dabas más.

Les doy gracias a todos y cada uno por ser mis maestros en ese periodo, por darme una leccioncita de vida y acompañarme en esa etapa del camino tan especial.

Siempre los llevo conmigo, MAE/MBA 49, INCAE!

It´s been two months since I left Brasil and I never took sometime to write something about it. I always wanted to go, it was one of my "dream places", and finally I got the chance to go there, live there and fall in love with it even more.
I can say I am already missing the language...the sexy way they talk, samba, caipirinhas, as churrasquerias, Rio, Sao Paulo, the beautiful beaches, the diversity and kindness of the people and the way the enjoy life, but specially, my dear friends: Luila, Henrique, Fabiano, Ana, Silvinha, Nacho and all the people I met there, who in such a short time, became close friends of mine.Now I am back to finnish my master studies, but I just want to say... I LOVE BRASIL!!!!I´ll be back ;)

Gramado

This is Gramado, it´s located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. I took a plane to the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and got to Porto Alegre, where I was supossed to meet my friend Fabiano and his girlfriend.
Then, the next day we drove to a wonderful canyon in the Sierra Gaucha. We continued our trip to Gramado, a beautiful city in the middle of the sierra, with lots of things to do. You can find incredible places to eat or drink, churrascarias, chocolate stores... we had an excellent time.

Buzios

This is Buzios, in the coast of Rio de Janeiro, just 2 hours away. I had an awsome time there and the best caipirinhas in Brasil. In Buzios, you can visit lots of small beaches.
I also got to meet a group of capoeira dancers. Capoeira is a typical martial art that comes from the times of the slaves in Brasil, it´s really interesting.

Culture Shock??

Fun to imagine that after all I've been through, I would feel it...but yes, I am. The language part has a lot to do with it, let´s just hope phase 2 passes quickly.

The term culture shock describesthe anxiety produced when a person moves to a completely new environment. This term expresses the lack of direction, the feeling of not knowing what to do or how to do things in a new environment, and not knowing what is appropriate or inappropriate. The feeling of culture shock generally sets in after the first few weeks of coming to a new place.

Often, the way that we lived before is not accepted as or considered as normal in the new place. Everything is different, for example, not speaking the language, not knowing how to use banking machines, not knowing how to use the telephone and so forth. The symptoms of cultural shock can appear at different times. Although, one can experience real pain from culture shock; it is also an opportunity for redefining one's life objectives. It is a great opportunity for leaning and acquiring new perspectives. Culture shock can make one develop a better understanding of oneself and stimulate personal creativity.

I have two days already in Sao Paulo. Got here on Sunday night and Monday I was already working.

First impressions - The city is huge and chaotic in a way, but I like it. My flat is located near avenida Paulista and it has a great view of part of the city.

The company is huge, I didn't imagine the size of its operations. They have 3 plants in the site, all working under the Just in Time (JIT) system, with more than 3,500 employees and the design of the installations is gorgeous. Its sorrounded by a "foresta" which is also owned by the company. Sustainability is a very important topic for them.

I won the lottery with this job. I'm going to be working in the Corporate Brand Governance dept. Natura is the #1 brand in Brasil in the industry sector. It's fun, but almost every brazilian loves (and I mean it...) this brand.

Appart from all this, I'm really enjoying my stay. People have been so kind and eventhough I don't speak portuguese, I'm starting to understand the conversations and I hope to be talking in portuguese soon!

Heading south

I´m starting to feel a little anxious about this trip I'm just about to make in 2 days and that is going to take me to one of the countries I've always dreamed of visiting...Brasil. You may think that I am well prepared to live this experience, as I have lived abroad before and I can imagine how the process of living in another country is going to be... but for some reason I´m really anxious and I don't know why.

Anyways, I am really happy that this is going to happen. The company where I´m going to work is a perfect example of how business can be aligned with sustainable development and this is one of the strongest facts that made me say yes to the opportunity. Another positive point is that I´m going to be working in my favorite area: Marketing, as part of the Brand team. And I'm sure this experience is going to be quite different from the one in which I was working before. Well, I have to prepare my bags and get ready to travel...
I just realized, that I haven't worked in my country for over 4 years. And it's fun to see how you miss it when you are abroad, but as soon as you get here and stay home for a couple of weeks, you just wish to take a plane and discover new places, new faces and experiences.

I'll keep you posted on what goes on on this new chapter...
BTW: everybody here is jealous cause I'm going to be in Brasil during the Soccer World Cup. I know I have reduced chances to celebrate Costa Rica's victories, but now I have stroooong possibilities of celebrating with brasilians!!!

Time to say good bye

The thing I hate about meeting people and building new friendships is, actually, knowing that one day you have to say "good-bye" to them. This first year of my master studies is been great and I´ve met incredible persons and built friendships that will be in my memory forever. As the year has come to an end, it´s time to separate from some of them. In a sense, I am happy that I got the chance to share all those moments and that I have a bunch of more friends to visit somewhere in the world.

Its sad that they are leaving... but its been wonderful to meet them!

Last week I got great news. My summer internship is going to be in a company in Brasil, Sao Paulo, more specifically.
The company name is Natura (www.natura.net) and I´ll be working as part of the branding team.

It´s a really cool opportunity and I´m really looking forward to be there and meet all my brasilian friends, as well as to live this new experience!

Its April and there´s just one more month left before vacation... I still don´t know what to do during those 3 months, but there are some chances of doing an internship. I will know this week after some interviews.

It´s been 3 months since I entered school.
Now there´s only one more before vacation... I am am really looking forward for some spare time!

Today I had two tests... haven't had that much sleep, but still... I think I'm going to celebrate tonight.

After all, when you work hard, you have the right to party harder... that´s one thing I learned in AIESEC.
